Artist Licence is an agreement that must be signed by the artist covering his / her artist works featured in an image or video

Asset means any digital item ie image, footage clip, video or design file which may be offered for the purposes of reproduction or publication.

Asset Delivery form is the form that needs to be completed about a project when submitting assets to VisitBritain Images.

Asset Licence Agreement_No Fee Partners are required to sign this form when they are licensing their images to VB/VE for our uses.

Copyright (IP Intellectual Property Law) law gives the person who creates an image or video clip the right to control the ways in which their material may be used. International conventions give protection in most countries, subject to national laws. Under law, it is the owner of the image or video who will own copyright on any imagery he/she has taken, with the following exceptions:

If the photographer is an employee of the company the photos are taken for, or is an employee of a company instructed to take the photos, the photographer will be acting on behalf of his/her employer, and the company the photographer works for will own the copyright. In the UK copyright can be assigned and ownership handed over to another party.

Credit is the recognition of the photographer or assigned copyright owner of an image which must be printed on or alongside the images unless otherwise agreed by the owner of the image. An example of a credit is  © VisitBritain / Photographer name where VisitBritain owns the copyright to the image. VisitBritain © Photographer name shows where an asset is available vis VisitBritain Images but owned by a third party,

Commercial use means that assets (image, videos, text, audio) can be used in VB/VE’s marketing campaigns, including paid for social media activity.

Editorial Assets that are not cleared for commercial uses (this is due to lack or permissions by people or property owners)

File size is the size that an asset has been saved as for example all images held on VisitBritainimages are saved as Jpeg files and are on average up to 10mb in size. The size of an image determines how big an image can be reproduced.

Jpeg is a file format, which stands for ‘Joint Photographic Experts Group’ which is the committee who created the file format. The Jpeg is a form of compressing an image. If a jpeg is compressed too much, data is lost and information or detail within the image is lost and becomes ‘blocky’ or ‘pixelated’.

Licensed Asset An image or video clip means that the asset is not owned by VB/VE and it may carry a restriction such as a specific credit or may be used for limited project or timeframe

Model release is a consent form for any model or volunteer who is the subject within an image or a film to sign to agree to the usages as stipulated in the form. Children under 16 must have the agreement of their parent or guardian to appear in an image or film and the form completed and signed by the parent or guardian as appropriate.

Project A Project on VBI is the workspace within VisitBritain Images where you can add, share, remove and make notes to assets within Collections held on VisitBritain Images.

Property release is a consent form for any property featured within an image or film. The property release form is to be completed by the individual or corporate owner of the property. This includes exteriors of properties and includes domestic as well as commercial buildings such as a cottage or a shopping centre.

Stills Asset Submission Form Stills are to be submitted with location and credit information. Ie Place, county, country, caption, credit. This detail can be embedded into the image or this form must be completed. Without this assets will not be accepted or uploaded

Video Asset Log.  Videos are to be submitted with location and credit information. Ie Place, county, country, caption, credit plus release and credit information.. This form must be completed. Without this assets will not be accepted or uploaded

Usage is the purpose for which the asset is being downloaded and used.
